С напористым «характером», но не агрессивный, ix-onic являет собой новый взгляд на компактные полноприводные внедорожники. ix-onic сочетает динамичный «скульптурный» дизайн, высокую работоспособность и экологичность. Он был создан, чтобы изменить отношение потребителей, особенно молодых, к компактным внедорожникам.ix-onic обладает 1,6-литровым двигателем прямого впрыска с турбонаддувом, мощностью 175 л.с., технологией «стоп-старт» и шестиступенчатой трансмиссией с двумя дисками сцепления. Интеллектуальная полноприводная система обеспечивает великолепную динамику езды, в том числе и по бездорожью. Экологичный двигатель следующего поколения выбрасывает всего 149 г/км углекислого газа, а это внушительная цифра для внедорожника.Разрабатывая ix-onic, команда конструкторов Hyundai из Руссельхайма стремилась создать «автомобиль контрастов для мира контрастов». Созданный для европейцев, новый концепт создавался с учетом особенностей таких мультикультурных городов, как Берлин, Париж и Шанхай. Заднее окно автомобиля разрабатывалось специалистами Hyundai совместно с компанией SABIC Innovative Plastics, с которой Hyundai уже сотрудничал (совместный проект - концепт QarmaQ).
